After decades living in the U.S., Harvard educated Razia Jan decided to return to her home country of Afghanistan so she could, in turn, “educate the country’s daughters.” On donated land that was once the village dump, the Zabuli Education Center opened in 2008 – a school devoted to the education of girls. As Razia says, “By providing girls with an education, we could give them a ray of hope to protect them from the vicious cycle of poverty, malnutrition, and hunger.”
