When was the last time you actually looked forward to your commute to work? Stopping at a traffic light, you look over expecting to see a billboard featuring a bank ad but are startled to take in a lovely Rembrandt still life or a famous photograph by Henri Cartier-Bresson or even a Rothko (Nos. 3, 10 and 13 to be exact).
Well, that is currently what is going down in Tehran, Iran where almost overnight all the billboards (owned by the city and a source of income) have been replaced by works of art. According to the Organization of Beautification of Tehran, “Our people are too busy to go to museums and galleries so we decided to turn the entire city into a huge gallery.” One word – fantastic!
