Shirin Neshat is said to be the most famous contemporary artist to hail from Iran (she left as a teenager and came to America, studying at the University of California, Berkeley). Currently, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. is running a retrospective of her work. The artist says her work explores the “dichotomy between religion, politics, violence and feminism.”
Ms. Neshat’s work can also be seen at the Los Angeles Museum of Art. For more check out: ‘Islamic Art Now’ .
