So how did an underdog political party such as Peoples’ Democratic Party (or HDP) win a historic 13% of the vote in Turkey’s elections earlier this month? PRI takes a look at the “once unlikely” alliance of students, liberals, Kurds and activists who managed to secure 80 seats in Turkey’s parliament, greatly threatening President Erdogan’s reported plan to seize more power and even change the constitution. As one HDP activist says, “We said we wanted to represent all the colors…. We want to represent all the religions, all nationalities.”
