Last week, 17 year old Pakistani children’d rights and education activist Malala Yousafzai appeared on the Daily Show for yet another powerful interview, especially in light of the South Carolina shooting. In one particularly compelling exchange, she told Stewart it was important for regular people to speak up about social injustice. “Sometimes we wait for others, and think that Martin Luther should rise among us, and Nelson Mandela should rise among us and speak up for us,” she said. “But we never realize that there are normal humans like us, and if we step forward, we can also bring change just like them.”
The activist is also the subject of an upcoming documentary titled “He Named Me Malala” – directed by Davis Guggenheim (“An Inconvenient Truth” and “Waiting for Superman”).
