In 2010, Lara Abdallat was Miss Jordan and the following year, she was runner-up for Miss Arab. So what is the former Beauty Queen up to these days? She’s been keeping busy as a “hactivist,” working for an international counterterrorism organization called Ghost Security. The work entails tracking extremist groups like ISIS and Al-Shabaab on the Deep Web, alerting the authorities of suspicious activity. She says her organization has helped stop two recent terrorist attempts in New York City and Tunisia.
As the only Muslim member of the hacktivist team, Ms. Abdallat says that extremist groups have nothing to do with her religion. “Islam is a peaceful religion. Nothing in it says we should take souls. A soul is something very precious,” says Ms. Abdallat.
