Yemen is considered one of the poorest countries in the Middle East and since the Arab Spring, has faced political uncertainty which culminated in war breaking out this past March between a Saudi Arabian-led coalition and a rebel force known as the Houthis.
Dr. Natalie Roberts is in Yemen with Doctors Without Borders, and says that this conflict is unlike any she has encountered before. “What’s really surprising to me here is that I’ve never seen so few [aid workers and journalists] on the ground. Syria, when I was there, was counted as the most dangerous conflict in the world — but Yemen? I just haven’t met anyone.”
