As a former senior advisor to the U.S. State Department under the Obama administration, one of Shahed Amanullah’s duties was offering counsel to Muslim relationships around the world, including the Muslim-American community. In this op-ed for Patheos, he talks about the paradox, from the increase of Islamophobic incidents and feelings (much of it online) to the more hopeful realities of the Muslim-American community who, according to Mr. Amanullah, “is in better shape than it has ever been. By every available metric, Muslims in America have become wealthier, happier, better integrated into society, more educated, and more confident about their identity.”
