Zaina Erhaim has been named the recipient of the 2015 Peter Mackler Award for Courageous and Ethical Journalism. Ms. Erhaim lives and works in Aleppo, Syria, and over the last two years has trained “citizen reporters,” many of them female, in print and television reporting, helping to establish a new network of independent journalism for the war-ravaged country.
“Zaina Erhaim is a force multiplier of journalistic values in a country torn by violence and irrationality,” says Camille Mackler, the award’s project director. “We salute her courage, upholding professional ethics and bringing them to the service of those left to write history.”
