Gaza student Hoda Elrayes talks to the Guardian about life after war, and personally interviews three Gazan women about how their lives have been affected since the last major conflict with Israel.
Sabiha Abu Rok, 65, comments, “I’m afraid of everything. I lost my house. My married sons’ houses were completely destroyed as well. We are all homeless now. We hear about promises of reconstruction but nothing has happened.”
Hoda interviews Gaza’s deputy minister of public works and housing, Naji Sarhan, who says: “There are 12,620 completely destroyed housing units, 12,740 severely destroyed and uninhabitable housing units, and another 143,680 housing units that are partially destroyed. We cannot rebuild all of this in a day, nor in a year.”
