On Reddit, the question was put to the Muslim community: “How much did your life change after 9-11?”
The thread has received over 6,000 comments with stories of lost friendships, bullying at school, and violence against the Muslim community or those perceived to be Muslims.
A sample of the postings:
“My name was Osama. Had to change it cause people would no longer treat me the same way. I was 6 at the time.”
And…
“I was in the 6th grade when it happened. One of my teachers told me that me and my “kind” didn’t deserve to be in this country (even though I was born here). Another teacher later told me that I didn’t deserve the quality education that I was getting. Sadly I never reported either of these teachers because at the time I didn’t know it was an option.“
