Most struggling comics in America only have to worry about paying their rent and colleagues stealing their material, but for Pakistan’s comedians, these creatives have to worry about offending the state and the real threat of severe blasphemy laws.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t afraid,” says Pakistani comedian Shehzad Ghias Shaikh. “I’m not going to censor myself … the least I can do is joke about it. That’s the only power I have.”
