“I love divine music… I love Christian music, I love Jewish music, I love it all. But I am Muslim so I choose nasyid,” says Hafiz Hamidun, a chart-topping Malaysian composer and performer (and former boy-band singer).
Nasyid is a “super popular” art form among Muslims, especially the younger generation, and is described as “sung music in which a phrase or word of praise is repeated.” Global concerts, musical competitions, and festivals celebrate this form of music.
