There are a lot of “firsts” in mountaineer Samina Baig’s career – in 2013, she became the first Pakistani woman and the third Pakistani to climb Mount Everest at the age of 21. Ms. Baig is is also the first Muslim to climb the “seven summits,” the highest mountains of all seven continents.
“On Mt. Everest, I was not Samina Baig,” says the mountaineer. “I was representing Pakistani women. I was thinking that if I don’t make it, how am I going to encourage other women? I had to do it.”
Today, Samina Baig travels throughout her home country, spreading a message filled with empowerment. “I want to tell the women in Pakistan that if I am from Pakistan and I can climb mountains, they can climb their own mountains, because everyone has their own mountains in their lives.”
