Last month the world opened up in the Barbie universe. We now have a “curvy” Barbie along with a tall and petite one but alas, it took 24 year old Haneefah Adam to open up the world even more with… “Hijarbi Barbie.” Adam, who lives in Nigeria, recently started an Instagram account showcasing Barbies dressed in hijabs and abayas.
Adam got the idea while she was looking at the mega-popular “Barbie Style” Instagram account. “It got me thinking about how I’d actually like to see a doll dressed up like I would have — covered up,” says Ms. Adam . “I was mulling about the idea for about three months while I was still studying for my master’s degree in the U.K. When I got back to Nigeria, I went to the mall, purchased a doll, dressed it up, documented it and here we are.”
To date, Adam’s Instagram “Hijarbie” has over 12,500 followers.
