Last month, Dolce & Gabbana released its first collection of abayas and hijabs which Forbes called the “smartest move in years” for the Italian high fashion house. Carol Kuruvilla, editor at the Huffington Post, points out that Muslim women have been designing modest fashion for years, and lists 15 women who “were making waves in the Muslim fashion world long before D&G got in the game” including:
• Indonesia designer Dian Pelangi who is one of the most popular Muslim fashionistas on Instagram with 4 million followers.
• English fashion designer and blogger Dina Torkia who not only has an “impeccable sense of style,” she is also a funny entertainer. Follow her on Instagram and youtube.
• Los Angeles based Hassanah El-Yacoubi is a cultural blogger whose Instagram feed focuses on faith, food, and fashion.
