Australian journalist Jennine Khalik has broken the story that several high-profile Muslim fashion bloggers and brands have become victims to hackers on the popular social media site, Instagram. On at least one account, Donald Trump videos were posted and fashion houses have reported receiving anti-Muslim emails.
According to Elle magazine, “Khalik also wrote that bloggers NabiilaBee and Mariam Moufid’s Instagram accounts have been hacked. The Hijab House Instagram account is now completely blank, with just one follower. The hacker, with the username blurryxans, took the brand’s 162,000 followers, made the account private, and, it appears, deleted all the photos.”
Elle reports that some hackers have demanded a ransom, and others have simply said there’s nothing that the bloggers can do. The victims are urging Instagram to re-open their accounts so they can get back to doing what they do best… aim to make the world a more lovely and tolerant place.
