Mahmoud Raslan is the photographer/videographer who shot the gut-wrenching image of five year old Omran Daqneesh who, following an airstrike on his home in Aleppo, Syria, was captured sitting alone, covered with dirt and blood, becoming yet another heart wrenching symbol of the five-year old civil war, and all the unfair and tragic consequences of war.
Commenting about the viral image that has affected millions of viewers, the photographer says he hopes “all photos of children and attacks in Syria go viral…” He continues, “The tears started to drop as I took the photo. I have cried many times while filming traumatized children. I always cry. We war photographers always cry. Last night everyone cried.”
