Known as the “Festival of the Sacrifice,” Eid al-Adha is an important holiday in the Muslim faith, honoring the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, as an act of submission to God’s command, before God then intervened sending his angel Jibra’il (Gabriel) to inform him that his sacrifice had been accepted.
The event falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah on the Muslim lunar calendar and lasts four days. This year, the holiday began on Monday, September 12th.
