After hearing that the Quran had never before been transcribed on silk, Azerbaijani painter Tünzale Memmedzade set to meticulously transcribe the Quran onto sheets of transparent black silk. The project, which took three years to complete, used a total of 164 feet worth of delicate silk. My Modern Met calls the result “a beautifully crafted religious text that demonstrates both devotion and patience.”
The Smithsonian in Washington D.C. is currently running the first major exhibit on the Quran in the United States titled “The Art of the Quran: Treasures from the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts” which goes until January 20, 2017.
