A photo of two children –a Muslim girl wearing a hijab and a Jewish boy wearing a kippah – went viral on Monday night. The photo, shot by Nuccio DiNuzzo, a staff photographer at the Chicago Tribune, depicts the children sitting high on their respected father’s shoulders, smiling to one another and holding signs in protest of Trump’s Muslim ban.
The photographer talks about capturing the compelling image: “All of a sudden, I saw two girls holding signs. They were wearing hijabs. The father put one of the girls on his shoulders. I started shooting pictures of that… And then I see this other boy with a signed to the left of one of the girls. The boy’s father picked him up and put him on his shoulders….It was just a matter of waiting for the moment where I could see them looking at each other. I got maybe one frame of that and that was it. I knew I had the picture.”
As people praise the power of the photo’s message, Mr. DiNuzzo says that it indeed makes him feel good. “It’s affecting people emotionally. And that’s what photography is all about.”
So far, the photograph has received 7,000 re-tweets and 10,000 likes on social media.
