“The mainstream view is so misrepresented of so many young Muslim Americans… I definitely consider myself an artist, skater girl, someone in tech, and someone who is also a faithful Muslim,” says original MIPSTER, Layla Shaikley, in the recent installment of Vox’s “The Secret Life of Muslims.”
Ms. Shaikley is famously known for the viral video “Somewhere in America #MIPSTERZ” which shows her skating alongside her friends in the streets of New York City to the tune of Jay Z’s “Somewhere in America.”
