It took just six weeks and they traveled over 3,000 km, but they did it — a group of nine British Muslim cyclists have journeyed all the way from London to Saudi Arabia! The men arrived in Medina on Saturday evening where they were given a police escort to the Holy Prophet’s Mosque (or Masjid-e-Nabvi). Calling themselves “The Hajj Ride,” the group says the goal of their journey was to show Islam as a religion of peace and tolerance among the countries they biked through which included France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece and Egypt.
According to Daily Pakistan: “The bikers crossed all kinds of terrain ranging from roads to mountains and had to endure harsh weather conditions that include unbearable heats, rain, and storm. Throughout their journey, they had support from the locals of every country they visited. These people shared their food and offered shelter to the riders.”
The riders are now planning to rest in Medina, and will start their Hajj at the end of August. The group hopes to raise 1 million British pounds on their journey for Syrian refugees through the charity Human Aid UK.
