Over the weekend, assailants attacked a Jewish synagogue in Malmo, Sweden, throwing Molotov cocktails inside the temple during a youth event. Thankfully there were no reported injuries, and three men have subsequently been arrested on suspicion of attempted arson.
Muslim and Christian leaders immediately rallied around the Jewish community, condemning the heinous attacks, and visiting the synagogue on Sunday. “We want to show sympathy and solidarity with Jews in Malmo and condemn all forms of racism and anti-Semitism in society,” stated Alaeddin al-Qut, a local scholar and head of the Ibn Rushd society. Archbishop Antje Jackelen penned an op-ed in Dagen, a local newspaper, stating: “I would like to assure you of the solidarity of the Swedish church in the fight against anti-Semitism and violence in the name of religion.”
