The 4th annual Muslim Day at the Oklahoma Capitol occurred last Monday. Supporters carried signs reading “Welcome Muslim Friends,” “We’re glad you’re here,” and “Good Morning Neighbor.” Evan Taylor, a minister from East Side Christian Church in Tulsa, came to show support, adding that in the past few years he feels Muslims have been marginalized and insulted.
Leaders from the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the event’s sponsor, said the event was designed to bring Muslims to the Capitol to directly meet with their state legislators to discuss issues impacting the local Muslim community (per Tulsa World).
Adam Soltani, CAIR Oklahoma executive director, said approximately 125 Muslims attended the event plus members of the local interfaith community.
