Adil El Arbi (30 years old) and Bilall Fallah (33 years old) are a pair of Moroccan-born Muslim filmmakers who were brought up in Belgium, and were inspired by Spike Lee and Martin Scorsese films. Their second feature film, the crime drama ‘BLACK’, earned international acclaim, and won the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival’s “Discovery Award” — and soon Hollywood came calling. CUT TO the duo on the set directing Will Smith and Martin Lawrence on the third installment of the 90s action classic “Bad Boys.”
The filmmakers talked to The Wrap about the challenges directing ‘Bad Boys for Life.’ “[The film] has a huge fan base so you don’t want to disappoint anybody, but also its an older franchise so you gotta make it fresh. There was a gigantic pressure on our shoulders, even though we had a smaller weight in terms of our budget compared to the second movie.”
According to Deadline Hollywood, ‘Bad Boys for Life’ had the second-best Martin Luther King weekend opening at $73.4M, after ‘American Sniper’ ($107.2M), and was the best opening ever for a ‘Bad Boys’ movie.
