Hollywood Iftar 2017 (hosted by MOST and Writers Guild of America Foundation – June 14, 2017)
MOST and the Writers Guild Foundation co-hosted the first Hollywood iftar (which is the meal that breaks the Ramadan daily fast). Those attending included: Greg Daniels (showrunner of The Office), Wane Powers (screenwriter of The Italian Job who also taught screenwriting in Jordan for five years), Bassem Youssef (known as “The Jon Stewart of Egypt”), actor Khaled Naga (Vikings, Tyrant) and actor Ben Youcef (Munich) who sang the adhan (the Muslim call to worship).
“I’ve done a lot of iftars with non-Muslims but never with people in the business,’ says Ben Youcef. “This was my first time sharing my faith with Hollywood, which is a good start.”
