Syrian archaeologist Isber Sabrine is the founder of Heritage for Peace, an organization which is desperately trying to trace and document the looting and destruction of Syria’s ancient heritage. The 29-year old archaeologist works with a network of 150 volunteers – fellow archaeologists, architects, students and concerned citizens. The work is often dangerous, worthy of an espionage novel, as volunteers often pose as wealthy antiquities buyers who secretly photograph and log the priceless artifacts on the black market. The list is then shared with law enforcement, auction houses and collectors.
