Seema Joyenda is the third elected female governor in Afghanistan history. She is governor of the province of Ghor which is known as one of the country’s most impoverished areas. Though the governor has many challenges, many see her largest contribution as simply being a political inspiration for many Afghan women.
“Any successful woman in Afghanistan, particularly in politics, knows that they are a sacrifice. We will struggle so one day, in the future, others will be able to thrive,” says Ms. Joyenda.
