Representing the United Nations, actress-director Angelina Jolie is currently on a four-day tour of Myanmar. Today she visited a refugee camp in the northernmost state, Kachin, where thousands of displaced Rohingya Muslims are seeking shelter from the ongoing conflict.
In a statement Rohingya leaders Dr. Wakar Uddin and Shiekh Abdullah Maruf said this of Ms. Jolie’s visit:
“At the critical time when the Green Card offer was completely rejected by the Rohingya Muslims, her visit is being considered as of vital importance.” The Rohingyas have not been given equal access to Burmese citizenship.
