It’s a mixed message for Afghan girls who are striving to achieve an education. As NPR reports, their very presence in school is a clear sign of progress, however many girls often get berated by their male peers (though schools remain segregated), along with other societal pressures, and their “dreams for the future may not align with the opportunities available to them.”
