According to Latin Times, Hispanic Americans are “increasingly converting to Islam” and theorize that it may because there are many similarities between the traditions of Islam and Catholicism. “What most Latinos who have embraced Islam find most amazing is their cultural affinity to the Muslim culture,” says Wilfredo Ruiz, a Puerto Rican convert to Islam and a lawyer for the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). “It’s like rediscovering your past.”
