Geared to the public sector, the North Austin Muslim Community Center hosted their annual “Ramadan Open House” to increase a better understanding of Islam and Ramadan. During the event, a traditional iftar feast was prepared (which breaks the Ramadan fast), and questions from the community were encouraged. “It’s important to go out of my way to meet my neighbor, to talk to my neighbor, “ said Imam Islam Mossad. “And I think very quickly any prejudice, any kind of hatred, will dissolve.”
Many public officials were in attendance, including Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo. “I’m here to tell you that there’s no hate in this community, there’s no room for hate,” said the Police Chief. “We stand with this community.”
