Like the Holocaust film “The Pianist” where the lead character plays the piano in the midst of horror, Karim Wasfi, conductor of the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra, took to the streets to play his cello in the middle of yet another Baghdad bombing which killed ten people and injured many more. He talks to Al Jazeera about the importance of culture and says about his recent performance, ”It was an action to try to equalize things, to reach the equilibrium between ugliness, insanity and grotesque, indecent acts of terror.”
