Turkish-American composer and musician Mehmet Ali Sanlikol has a new album out called “Resolution” which fuses Middle Eastern instruments with contemporary jazz. Sanlikol says the song “Whirl Around” draws from “the treasure of Islam called Sufism, Islamic mysticism.”
“Sufi culture … and Rumi, great Muslim poets of the past, provide artists like me with great inspiration,” says the composer. “And through their poetry, through their literature, I can reach into reggae. I can reach into funk. I can reach into anything.”
