Over the weekend, an Ikea store in Germany loaned its parking lot to Muslim worshipers so they could celebrate Eid al-Fitr (the end of Ramadan) via social distancing.
Kadir Terzi, a chairman of one of the mosques who participated, said praying together was especially important this year, in light of the Covid-19 quarantine. “It was a completely different Ramadan month, without contacts, without visits and without breaking the fast together.”
Aerial photos of worshipers on mats spread out over the parking lot went viral on social media. One person on Twitter commented: “What a lovely gesture. A true sign of hope in these difficult times.”
