In Timbuktu, local workers are starting a restoration project of 15th and 16th century shrines that honor Muslim saints which were destroyed by extremist attacks in 2012. Imam of Timbuktu’s Grand Mosque has appealed to “the world to support the project that would bring Timbuktu back to life.”
