Muhammad Ali Jr. should have a pretty recognizable name but even the legendary boxer’s son has been an unfortunate victim of the Muslim ban. Though the ban is supposed to be temporarily suspended (rumored to be re-released sometime this week), Mr. Ali Jr. was still detained at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport earlier this month by immigration officials who repeatedly asked if he was Muslim.
Mr. Ali, 44, was traveling with his mother, Khalilah Camacho-Ali, both returning from a speaking engagement in Jamaica (which is not one of the seven banned countries cited in the Travel/Muslim Ban). “Immigration came up to me and pulled me aside and asked me my name first and I said, ‘Muhammad Ali,’” Mr. Ali Jr. recounted. “He said, ‘What religion are you?’ and I said, ‘Muslim.’ He said, ‘Come with me.’”
Mr. Ali Jr. told CBS News that the officer took him into a room and continued asking him about his religion. He was questioned for nearly two hours. His mother, Mrs. Camacho-Ali, said that she was scared.
