Though some young Egyptians say they don’t know actor Omar Sharif’s work, many of the older generation see him as an important icon and were saddened by his death last week.
“Before [him], no one had thought of Egypt in this way, as having something other than camels and the pyramids to offer the world,” says Ahmed Sarwar, an Egyptian doctor.
