Detroit Free Press reports that several lawsuits have recently been filed on behalf of local Muslim women who said they were told to remove their hijab (religious head covering). Raghdaa Ali, a native of Iraq, was ordered to remove her hijab at a cash advance store even as she tried to explain wearing it was in accordance to her faith. “I felt really hurt that day,” says Ali. “I’m a U.S. citizen and should not be treated differently because of my religion. This is pure discrimination against hijab.”
