In an open letter to welfare minister Eygló Harðar, more than 12,000 Icelanders have called on their government to take in more than the allotted fifty Syrian refugees – with many offering language lessons and even their homes.
Author and professor Bryndis Bjorgvinsdottir has started the Facebook group “Syria is calling, and says that “people have had enough of seeing news stories from the Mediterranean and refugee camps of dying people and they want something done now.”
