Drawing in more than 27,000 visitors, last week’s Art Dubai was, by all accounts, a smashing success. Collectors from all over the world along with famous museums such as the Guggenheim, the British Museum, the Tate, the Pompidou Center and the Metropolitan Museum of Art participated in the renowned art fair.
The New York Times noted that Syrian art was well represented throughout the fair. The goal of the Atassi Art Foundation is to “preserve and support” modern and contemporary Syrian art. Founder Mona Atassi says that she’s “not just introducing Syrian art [but] introducing Syria in its natural state.”
“There were many discoveries, and it was clear that most galleries brought some of their best work,” says Glenn Lowry, director of New York’s Museum of Modern Art. He continues that Art Dubai “is as vital as ever and continues to provide a unique opportunity to see some of the best art in the region.”
