Last night hijabi model Halima Aden had her first runway show – and by all accounts, it was spectacular. Featured in Kanye West’s Yeezy fashion show, Vogue says Ms. Aden “instantly became the show’s most talked-about new face.”
Born in a refugee camp in Kenya, Ms. Aden is a first-generation Somali-American. She made headlines last year for being the first Miss Minnesota contestant to wear a hijab during the pageant. She has recently signed with the prestigious agency IMG Models, and already has a shoot with legendary photographer Mario Sorrenti under her fashion-forward belt.
“My goal is to send a message to Muslim women and young women everywhere that it’s okay to break stereotypes and be yourself,” says the in-demand model. “Always stay true to who you are—barriers can and will be broken!”
