1) Call To Prayer in 50 States Ends On High Note: Last week Jameel Syed finished his epic journey across America where he is believed to be the first person to recite the Islamic call to prayer in all fifty states, ending at the Islamic Association of Greater Detroit in Rochester Hills where he is the Muezzin. Says Syed, “It was an epic journey on some many levels.”
2) Muslims Condemn Extremism, But Who’s Listening? American Muslims say they are quick to condemn extremism but some in the public still question this. Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for CAIR, says, “We have condemned attacks not only as un-Islamic, but anti-Islamic. We shout it from the rooftops, but nobody seems to be listening.”
3) French Radio Station Offers Sounding Board For Muslim Community: In the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attacks, the French-Muslim community has tuned (literally) to the radio where “Beur FM” has become a voice for the local Muslim community while also attracting new non-Muslim listeners.
4) And lastly, Tehran Becomes Patrons of the Arts: Almost overnight all the billboards in Tehran have been replaced by famous works of art.
