Big news in the Islamic fashion world as Indonesia fashion designer Anniesa Hasibuan is the first from her country to show at New York’s Fashion Week — her collection featured trousers, suits, kimonos, tunics, and colorful silk gowns all with complementing hijabs (which was another first).
“I want to bring the Indonesian name to the fashion world, and use my clothes to introduce people to the different and diverse parts of Indonesia,” says Ms. Hasibuan. Elle magazine reports that“48 looks went down the runway and at the end, Ms. Hasibuan was given a standing ovation–a rare sight at fashion week. Not bad for a one-year-old brand.”
