In an effort to encourage Muslim women to pursue a career in the police force in Scotland, the police department recently announced that women will be allowed to wear the hijab as part of the police uniform.
Chief Constable Phil Gormley commented that the police force should represent the community it serves, and adds: “I hope that this addition to our uniform options will contribute to making our staff mix more diverse and adds to the life skills, experiences and personal qualities that our officers and staff bring to policing the communities of Scotland.”
