Last week, a photo of a Syrian man selling pens in Lebanon while holding his daughter was tweeted by Gissur Simonarson, founder of the website Conflict News. The photo captured the hearts of tens of thousands, and BuzzFeed was able to locate the subject of the photo, Abdul Haleem al-Kader who is a Palestinian-Syrian refugee and as a single father, is desperately trying to provide for his family.
Luckily for Abudl, Gissur has started a twitter fund-raising campaign called #BuyPens which so far has raised more than $50,000 (yes, that’s a lot of pens!). Go Abdul!
