Just three years ago, a 150-year-old Quaker cemetery in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania was going through financially difficult times until they were approached by a Muslim family who was desperately trying to find a cemetery for their recently passed 21-year-old son that would be in accordance to Islam’s burial practices.
The family found a home for their beloved son and, according to The Daily Beast, the Quaker cemetery began “extensive discussions with local imams to ensure sharia burial rites were properly followed.” The cemetery soon became a place where other Muslim families buried their dead, and now the “traditional Quaker cemetery” is, ironically, thriving.
