The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that this summer it will open prayer rooms for Muslims in a couple of the city’s major tourist areas, targeting the growing number of tourists visiting from Southeast Asia and the Middle East. According to the Korea Tourism Organization, the number of visitors from Southeast Asia and the Middle East reached 985,858 in 2016, a 33% increase from 740,861 visitors in 2015. Seoul plans to build the prayer rooms at Tourist Information Centers in the city.
