Spain’s annual Civil War re-enactments hark back to medieval times. In dozens of small towns, half the citizens dress as conquering Muslims, half as defending Christians who repulse them, attracting crowds far larger than Pamplona’s Running of the Bulls . Some local Muslims find the whole exercise distasteful.
